White Helmets was not born from a business plan. It came from a problem I kept seeing around me.

I have been working in the construction industry for the past six years. In 2022, I started a structural contracting firm focused on residential buildings. While working on projects and building teams, I repeatedly faced the same challenge: finding the right people was difficult.

At the same time, I could see the problem from the other side too. Construction professionals were constantly looking for better opportunities, but discovering relevant jobs was often fragmented, dependent on personal networks, WhatsApp groups, referrals and general-purpose job portals that were not built around the way the construction industry actually works.

That always surprised me. Construction is one of the largest industries in India, employing millions of people across residential, commercial and infrastructure projects, yet there was still no hiring platform that felt truly built for construction professionals and construction companies.

I wanted to understand whether the problem was as widespread as I believed. So I started a WhatsApp channel. The idea was simple: collect genuine construction hiring opportunities from companies across India and make them easily accessible to professionals in the industry.

The response was much bigger than I expected. The community grew quickly, and every new follower, job post and interaction strengthened my belief that there was a real need for a dedicated construction hiring ecosystem. That experience became the foundation for White Helmets.

White Helmets is my attempt to build the platform I wished existed when I was hiring people for projects, and the platform I believe construction professionals need when looking for their next opportunity. But I don't want White Helmets to become just another job portal.

The vision ahead

My long-term vision is to build an AI-agentic recruitment platform designed specifically for the construction industry. I imagine a future where every HR professional and every applicant on White Helmets has their own personal AI agent.

For a applicant, that agent should understand their experience, skills, project background, career goals and preferred locations, continuously helping them discover the opportunities that genuinely suit them.

For an employer, the AI agent should understand hiring requirements, identify relevant professionals, assist with screening and simplify the entire recruitment process. Instead of people spending hours searching through hundreds of jobs or thousands of profiles, their AI agents should be able to do much of that work for them. The person should only need to make the decisions that matter.

Over the next five years, my goal is to build White Helmets into a specialised, intelligent hiring ecosystem where construction companies and professionals can find each other with significantly less effort.

What started as a WhatsApp channel has now become a much bigger ambition: to rethink how the construction industry finds talent and how construction professionals find opportunity.— Sai Vikas Reddy, Founder, White Helmets
